The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is seeking members for its small and medium enterprises (SMEs) committee, the regulator announced on Monday.

The committee provides advice to OSC staff on how the regulator's policies impact small- and medium-sized businesses.

As well, the committee's members are tasked with providing input on regulatory approaches to raising capital in the exempt market, including the development of an enhanced compliance program, and the impact of new prospectus exemptions.

Last week, the OSC issued a report detailing the recent continued growth of the exempt market, and the use of several new exemptions that have been adopted in the past couple of years.

"Members will be selected for their knowledge and experience related to the particular challenges facing SMEs in the regulatory context," the OSC says in its announcement.

The committee, which consists of 10 to 15 members, is chaired by Jo-Anne Matear, manager of the OSC's corporate finance branch. It meets approximately four times a year, and members serve a one-year term.

Applications are sought by June 30.
